Next Life Story IV: An Enshrouded Tale

Chapter 2

The King’s Wishes

On first hunch, he had his wishes declared, throughout several towns to hear. Some people smothered him with splendid gifts, as others just bide him near.

Most of the beckoned guests were fine women, with esteem they held firmly and dear.

However, noble discontentment; still left his gentle heart in despair!

And the King described what he was seeking, in the woman that he dreamed. She’d be honest, kind and skillful, and have heightened self-esteem.

He hoped that she’d hold sentiment, and love the world just as he did. Cause he’d need her gentle touches, to help calm and heal its kids. Perhaps, she’d have children, and they’d play gaily, with his own.

She’d be his hallowed sunshine flower; therefore, he’d never be alone.

And so, the King sat calmly recounting his desires, as many days and dusks passed through. Then, on the night of the moon eclipse, he knew just what to do!

He came to realize, that his tender-heart was rarely understood, so he summoned up the royal courts, as he felt he finally should.

He bethought of how the Duchess knew of women through the town; that could surround the Kingdom every day, until his Queen be found.

And as he wished, before sundown, on the coolest of spring days; he was invited to his stately courtyard, to see a doting court display.

He was excited and elated, as he envisioned whom the Duchess brought. He hoped her talents and her virtue were as vigor, as he’d sought.

But, stead of the Duchess, a Jester appeared; like a Duke in disguise. He first bowed down to the King; and then, winked him an eye.

And when the Jester smiled distrustfully, daylight dimmed right where he stood; and showed the scrolls he’d contrived for the King, had been made out of wood!

He unveiled each construed suggestion, with snickers that did follow! The first proposed the King must seek to find, a woman he may borrow.

The second hint demonstrated, the King marry much more than one. In that way, he’d have endless quarrels, along with having fun!

The last cue displayed a portrait of the town’s swift Medicine Witch. It considered that he marry her; and then, later on could switch.

After questioning the jokester, the King ordered him gone! And had the scrolls sent for burning, cause they never belonged.

And this duty was conveyed to the lofty Notable Knights; whom shielded the Kingdom’s honor, in defense of their Majesty’s rights.

But as the Jester was snatched, he tittered, then sneezed; disappeared into the darkness, and was no longer seized.

The Duke was then mustered, as he was devotedly treated; and he always stood by the King’s quests as were needed.

He was the trustworthy one, when the King entertained. He’d brought laughter to the Kingdom; and notoriety he gained.

When the King told the Duke how the Jester had fled; his suggestion was to seek out, where the clown must have tread.

The knights were sent outward, in search of the woods; and the guards sought throughout royal grounds as they could.

And all the fairest town ladies, stood near the King’s throne. They fed and they kissed him; whilst spreading jasmine they’d grown!

Then, they read him their verse, as they stacked a competitive mess. And they piffled and squabbled over whose words were best!

Resolutely, the King became somewhat tired and stressed; so he devoutly set up another chivalrous quest.

And the Duke summoned the doctor, who was asked to stay near; but a Conjuring Sorceress instead did appear.

She presented a regency order and begged him to sign. But her request was invalid; therefore, he declined!

She pled for forgiveness and asked for a treaty; claiming that her heartfelt intention was in help of the needy.

Then, with venom, she sedated his humanness being; thus depriving the kingdom, sleight of her hand, unforeseen!

Beautiful Lady sustained him, as no one had known; cause it was hidden in his royal tea, where it could have never shown.

So, the dear King surrendered unconscious, as sound rest took his mortal; bewildered, he entered an eternal portal.
